About

Valerie Rafferty draws attention to that which might be overlooked or abstracted by time. Her work is an archive of the ordinary that explores memory, personal narrative, and relationships. In studying the psychology of trauma, she questions what is recorded and what is left behind, who is heard and who is ignored, why we remember, and why we forget. These are the things that make up the fabric of our reality.

Her process is led by her materials and she attempts to elevate them. The work is an examination of subtle narratives that are deserving of attention, sensitivity, validation, and amplification.

Valerie lives and works in Salem, Massachusetts. She holds an MFA from Tufts University, a BFA from Montserrat College of Art, and an AS in Fine Arts from Hudson Valley Community College.
